GoldBox 7 will still use the BDE Administrator for data
access. The BDE is exceedingly reliable in GoldBox products, because its
root programming language is designed around BDE
access.
A single GoldBox 7 program will be able to access GoldMine data
hosted in MSSQL or Firebird format.
If possible, anything you have setup
using GoldBox-SQL will work in GoldBox 7 - other than old or obsolete technology
currently in GoldBox-SQL. Look for a conversion utility soon in the GXSQL
product.
GoldBox Views will
display faster, and contain a real-time screen designer. You will
be able to move and size labels, fields and screen buttons while in the actual
displayed View. Other attributes you can control are font, size, border,
underline and italicizing.
This will be a faster loading GoldBox,
because 'old technology' and 'superseded technology' have been removed
wherever possible. All EXEs are smaller than their counterparts in
GoldBox-SQL. Items that have been removed:
Old Technology
Import/Update (covered by Newer
GXI Technology).
DNC Phone Scrub operation (covered by more versatile DNCscan()
function and new compressed phone number parser).
Groups-by-Break (covered by more versatile 'plug-in' of Group
Membership found at Import/Update of Main Contacts).
Org Chart
Creator (covered by newer
Virtual Org Chart creator in GoldBox Views, with optional write to GoldMine, and
ability to auto-launch from Q-file script).
VLink2MSSQL()(covered by more versatile VLinkByQuery()
function).
User Input from Q-file. Covered entirely by much
more versatile GoldBox Views, which is also multi-user aware (User Input was
not). The GXinput() function is still used for DDEmacro capture in
GoldBox Views for GoldMine, and for storage of
variables.
